Timeline
Low Power:
Start your laser welding machine at the lowest power setting [01:10].
Increase Power Incrementally:
Gradually increase the power until you observe the metal beginning to react [01:10].
Apply Black Marker (Silver):
If working with silver, apply a black marker pen to the area you'll be welding. This will aid the laser's effectiveness [00:01:38].
Introduce infill Wire:
If filling a gap, position your filler wire (e.g., silver wire) at the edge of the gap [00:01:46].
Laser the Wire's End:
Direct the laser slightly ahead of the wire's end, causing it to melt and fuse to the jewelry piece [00:01:46].
Repeat for Filling:
Continue adding filler wire and laser welding it until the gap is filled. Reapply the black marker as needed [00:02:15].
Smooth the Weld:
Use the laser to smooth out the newly added metal, creating a seamless surface [00:03:00].
Adjust Spot Size:
If necessary, adjust the laser's spot size to refine the weld or smooth larger areas [00:04:24]
Address Thin Areas:
Be mindful of thin areas in the jewelry, as they can be more prone to damage. Adjust your laser settings accordingly [00:06:11]
Refine the Finish:
Make final adjustments to the laser's settings and spot size to achieve a smooth and polished finish [00:05:44].
