Part 1 - Silver bolt ring
3m 34s
Timeline
Skip Intro - [00:15]
Close up the jump ring and make it as flush as possible [00:40].
Increase the power of the laser machine until you get action on the bolt ring [00:53].
Optionally, use a black marker pen on the inside of the ring, which acts like a flux [01:13].
Adjust the power as needed [01:35].
Smooth off the joined area by increasing the spot size [02:26].
Optionally, add more black to create a flush effect [02:52].
Tidy up the result [03:03].
Tips and tricks
Black Marker Pen - Applying a black marker before laser welding reduces reflection, boosts heat absorption, enhances precision, and creates a temporary layer for smoother, more consistent welds on reflective materials.
Strong Join - Using a laser welder all around a thicker jump ring, including the inside, creates a seamless, strong join. This fully fuses the ends, eliminating gaps and maximising durability, essential for thicker rings under stress.
Spot Size - At the top of the DaDo chamber, there’s a lever to adjust the laser spot size. A larger spot size reduces power but is ideal for smoothing tasks. Pull the lever closest to the machine for the smallest spot size, and closest to you for the largest.
