Timeline
Flush link:
First, ensure the link is flush [00:27].
Blu tack:
Use blue tack and your left thumb to secure the chain, exposing the link [00:40].
Power:
Start with the laser at the lowest power setting [01:04].
Increase the power in increments [01:09].
Firing the laser:
Fire the laser on the link itself, but not on the joint [01:16].
Move over and hit a side of the joint, which is very important for all joint repairs [01:31].
Power:
Increase the power a little bit to smooth it off [01:59].
Tips and tricks
Fire next to the join - To achieve a strong and effective join, aim the laser just next to the joint rather than directly on it. This helps the metal flow over the seam, creating a better bond. Firing directly on the joint may not provide the desired fusion and could weaken the connection.
Blue/ White tac - Blu Tack or White Tack is often used to protect gemstones from heat damage. Since many gemstones are heat-sensitive, direct exposure to the laser can cause cracks, discolouration, or complete failure. It can also be used to help secure things in place like chains so the job becomes easier to handle.
