Timeline
Skip intro [00:15]
Preparation:
You can either file the jump ring flat and flush fit it to the pendant, or leave gaps for infilling with gold, which adds strength [00:50].
Positioning:
Use microscopes in the chamber to position the jump ring [01:24].
Adjust it until you are happy with its placement [01:34].
Initial Attachment:
Use the laser at its lowest level, increasing in increments, to shoot and attach the jump ring [01:40].
Securing and Straightening:
Hold the fob with pliers and position the jump ring so that it's straight [02:22].
Shoot the bulk of the jump ring onto the pendant to secure it [02:34]
If it's not straight, the laser is forgiving, allowing you to adjust it [02:53].
Infilling Gaps:
The gaps are then filled with gold to strengthen the bond [03:23].
For safety, focus on the thickest point, which is the jump ring [03:36].
Strengthening the Joint:
The infilling process not only fills the gaps but also strengthens the joint [03:55].
When adding jump rings, infilling is essential for strength and purpose [04:00].
Adjusting Laser Settings:
If the result is too "splatty", reduce the power fraction [04:13]
Shoot the gold, hitting the wire onto the job [04:27].
Finishing Touches:
Increase the spot size slightly and run the laser over it [05:01]
If you need more action, use a black marker pen to increase the power and create a flush finish [05:11].
Final Result:
The result should be strong and secure \[05:30].
Importance of Strength:
When adding jump rings, especially to valuable items like pendants with diamonds, the joint must be strong [05:52].
Infilling creates a strong bond between the pendant and the jump ring, ensuring safety and preventing loss of valuable stones [06:03].
Tips and tricks
Infilling using laser wire - Infilling with a laser welder and wire allows jewellers to seamlessly fill gaps, repair cracks, or restore worn areas with precision without damaging delicate details.
Black Marker Pen - Applying a black marker before laser welding reduces reflection, boosts heat absorption, enhances precision, and creates a temporary layer for smoother, more consistent welds on reflective materials.

Introduction to Module 2
In module two of the Freeform Online Laser Welding Academy's online course. In this module, you will learn how to repair a variety of chains, including curb chains and trace chains, in gold and silver. Paul will be using the DaDo 2.0 laser welding machine to demonstrate the process.

Part 1 - Gold figaro chain
First, ensure the joint is flush [00:28].
Start with the laser power as low as possible [00:49].
Increase the power in small increments until you see action on the link [00:55].
Shoot either side of the joint, not directly into it [01:31].
"Jump" the gold over into the joint [01:39].

Initial settings:
Begin with a low power setting on the laser [00:46].First shot:
Direct the initial laser shot onto the body of the link, avoiding the joint [01:00].Adjust power:
Fine-tune the power setting based on the action observed. If it's too strong, reduce it slightly [01:...
